A Better Shopping Experience
We set out to create a better in-person shopping experience that benefits shoppers and local businesses alike. Our mall features boutique stores and local handcrafted goods. It’s a place to visit with friends, interact with kittens, enjoy coffee, or get your steps in by walking the mall on a cold winter day. We also host local business offices, restaurants, artists, and more.

Our History
Central Square Mall was built and completed in 1984. It’s an 80,000+ square foot building containing many shops, restaurants and office spaces that have evolved over the years.
In its infancy, the mall featured large chain stores, restaurants, a movie theater, and an arcade. It was a place for families to shop as well as a fun spot for kids to get together with their friends.
However, things continued to change as Grand Rapids started to grow and build new businesses. The rise of online shopping giants such as Amazon, plus the isolation of the Covid years, drove malls around the country out of business. Central Square Mall
wasn’t immune to those challenges, but instead of giving up, we decided to adapt.
From Classic Shopping to Your Neighborhood Mall
In 2021, we changed the focus of the mall to become a community-centered space. We started renting to unique vintage stores and other local businesses. We also opened up a special business that works with special needs individuals, and welcomed a new restaurant that serves healthy meals and promotes good eating habits and amazing food.
Today, the mall is growing and thriving. Our vendors now include a pet store, gaming store, essential oils shop, and dispensary. Office spaces in the mall include life insurance companies, an animal rescue, a driving school, and even a meeting site for local boilermakers.
As we grow, we continue to provide space for local businesses and charities of all kinds. It’s not just about shopping — it’s about uplifting our community and creating an exciting, welcoming place for our neighbors.
